Old Town Museum August 21, 2011

It's the last day of vaction and we went to  an antiques appraisal event at the Old Town Museum.  http://www.oldtownmuseum.org/about  Such fun I had watching people bring in their items for appraisal and what fun it was to get my own items appraised.  It was almost like being on Antiques Road Show without all of the noise and confusion.  Bruce Buxton of Portland was the appraiser, he's a very nice man with a great sense of humor and tips to share.  The event was from 10-2. Even though I was #11 I found the event so exciting that I stayed until after 1pm.

First to appraise were these old vases.  We were told they were Bohemian and when produced they were first molded then were sent out to the women and children to be painted.

Last fall a friend in my doll club passed away so her daughter is in the process of selling her (my friend's) doll collection.  I wanted something to remember this friend by and since I'm interested in small dolls and dollhouse size dolls I immediately gravitated to her doll house in my search of adding a piece of my friend's collection to my own. I took these dolls to be appraised just to be sure my offer was fair and I learned that indeed it was.  I am so happy!

Other interesting sites at the museum include:

A Shirley Temple doll in an antique baby carriage.

We found this doll at the Town of Orono display interesting.

We enjoyed learning about the history of log cabin quilts, just like Hitty's quilt.

The Trolly Cars were fun to look at.

We ended our tour at the Town of Bradley Historical Society Display and found many items and names that we recognized from years gone by.

We hope you enjoyed this mini tour of The Old Town Museum and some of it's offerings.  When you are in the area please visit the museum, I'm sure you will enjoy it. Also check out the museum web site for information on their upcoming community tea on Sunday, October 16 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. http://www.oldtownmuseum.org/programs
