Doll Club Meeting

Another month has rolled around and time for our monthly doll club meeting. Today's meeting was held at Gwen's house, her program was "Memories".  Members brought one or more of their dolls and described the memory associated with the doll.

Debi collects Barbie, her special memory is that it was a gift from some special people in her life.

Alhough Jill by Vouge on the right was not one of Peggie's childhood dolls she is like the one Peggie had as a child, originally purchased in the early 1950's for $4.95.

Jackie's sweet little baby brings her fond
memories of her own mother.

There were four children in Charlene's family. A relative purchased four of these dolls whose names shared part of the children's names.  When the birthdays began rolling around a doll was given to each child. This would have been a wonderful gift but three of the children were boys and the first doll was given to one of the boys for his 14th birthday. They still have fond memories about the year the boys received dolls.

Sheila's doll was given to her as a gift from her husband, the doll's name is Michelle, the same name as their daughter.

My memorable dolls include (left) Love n Touch Baby 1979 which was a gift to our daughter from my great aunt when our daughter was three.  Because the doll has a flap on her bottom and her soft behind shows our daughter (age 3 at the time) named the doll "Naked Butt Baby". The cloth doll in the middle was made by my Mother about 25 years ago. And finally my wooden doll given to me by our son to cheer me up after my grandmother passed away, he was 15 at the time.  I have since named her Sonja, after my son whose name is Jason which Jason spelled backward almost.

These adorable Campbell Kids belonged to Gwen's aunts.  She told us how one of the aunts was rather tomboyish and would put the dolls on the stair way and then push them so they would tumble down the stairs (this brought back my own memories of how I would let my dolls tumble down the stairs pretending they were doing somersaults.)

This baby was given to Gwen
when she was a child.  It was Christmastime and Gwen had the measles, in those days to proect the eyes children with measles would recuperate in a dark room with the curtains drawn.  Gwen couldn't play with her doll for some time but the doll stayed by her side as she recovered from her illness.  Today the doll is mostly a 'lump' her arms and legs deterorated with age but with her body wrapped in the blanket she feels like a real baby.

Another one of Gwen's dolls.
Pru brought her childhood doll made by Horseman.

Some Hittys also attended the meeting.
Ruthi's Hitty displayed as one of the scenes from the book Hitty Her First Hundred Years.
Dawn's Hittys with Ginny

Two of my Hittys and one of Dawn's Hittys visited with Gwen's Hitty.
