A beautiful day

Mom spent the night lastnight and instead of taking her home by the highway Tom and I decided to take the scenic route. First we drove down Route 15 to Bucksport where we took a walk along the brick walkway that is on the waterfront of the Penobscot River. The walk took about an hour. Along the walkway there are signs that describe a brief history of the area and points of interest, plus picnic tables, benches to rest on and a fishing pier.

This photo of the old Waldo/Hancock Suspension Bridge and the new Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory was taken from the parking lot behind the Bucksport Historical Society building, which in itself is another part of local history as it is housed in an old railroad depot building.

The flowers along the trail were beautiful and we took a moment to watch the bees do their business.

At various points along the walkway one can get nice views of Fort Knox.

And of course views of the bridges and the fort.

At the end of the walkway, or beginning, depending on which parking lot you begin your walk, is a little granite pond and water fountain. The Hittys welcomed an opportunity to relax and have their picture taken. Along for the trip today were Hitty-Sue (left with hat) from The Northeast Hittys in Maine and The Plymouth Hittys in Maine girls Magnolia Pearl (standing) and Hitty Ruth.

We crossed the Penobscot Narrows Bridge and took a picture of the Historic Waldo/Hancock Bridge which one day will no longer exist but for now no one can decide how to dispose of this fantastic structure.

We drove along Route 1 to Belfast where westopped for lunch at The Weathervane on the waterfront. It was such a lovely day we decided to eat our meal outside on the deck. This sea gull was waiting for a snack.

Our day ended with a drive along Route 7 from Belfast to Plymouth where we dropped Mom off at her place. The views along the way of the rolling hills and mountains were beautiful, I didn't take pictures as we were driving.
It was a memorable day.

Lovely drive! I love this time of year, when things are getting that fall look--almost but not quite!

It was a beautiful day. Mom used to travel by boat on the Penobscot River so being able to walk along the waterfront brought back wonderful memories. The walkway was very level and wide enough for her wheelchair. With the ADA it still is hard to find truely handicap accessible places both outside and inside.
